Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world, is often called the "Jewel of the East". The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and magnificent architectural masterpieces such as Registan Square, Shah-i-Zinda and Bibikhanim Mosque are examples of Islamic art and culture. Walking around Samarkand is like stepping into the past, because every monument tells about the glorious past of the city.
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site is the city of Bukhara, which has preserved its ancient charm and spiritual atmosphere. Known as the center of Islamic science, Bukhara has many madrassas, mosques and mausoleums. The historical center of the city is a living museum, where visitors can get acquainted with the Ark fortress, the Kalyan tower and the Lyab-i Hauz ensemble. The well-preserved architecture of Bukhara gives physical support to the life of scholars, merchants and artisans who once lived in this bustling city.
Khiva fascinates from the medieval period with its well-preserved Itchan Castle (inner city). The narrow streets of the city surrounded by huge walls are surrounded by ancient palaces, mosques and madrasahs. Kunya-Ark fortress, Kalta-Minor tower, Tosh-Hovli palace are just a few of the architectural wonders that await visitors. Khiva's historical significance and ability to transport visitors back in time make it a highlight of any cultural and historical tour in Uzbekistan.
In addition to these famous cities, the cultural and historical wealth of Uzbekistan includes small towns and villages. The country is dotted with ancient caravanserais, castles and mausoleums, each with its own unique history. The influence of the Silk Road can be seen in various traditions, arts and crafts passed down from generation to generation.
